Main goal of these studies will be the commissioning of ANKE and a calibration of the side detectors. It is planned to measure pi-plus production in proton-proton collisions and a total beam time of approx. 3 weeks in the second half of 1997 will be applied for. A draft of the proposal is available on our ANKE ftp server in the directory /pub/ikp2/anke/proposal. You can either copy the complete proposal (including the figures) as a postscript file (first_measurements_draft.ps, 1.7 MB) or the text only (first_measurements_draft.tex, 34 kB). Any suggestions, remarks or corrections are of course welcome. Since the proposals have to be sent to the members of the PAC by October 1st, you should tell us your comments not later than Sept. 24 in order to give me sufficient time to make the changes in the text. In order to achieve a better coordination during the setup phase of ANKE we would like to ask you to send all technical drawings of equipment to be installed (e.g. supports of detectors, target chambers,... ) to our engineer W.Borgs before construction. He will make sure that everything fits into place and that no conflicts with other equipment occur. Thanks for your cooperation. Finally, we would like to remind you that our collaboration meeting will take place here in Juelich on November 13 and 14, 1996. Best regards, Markus Buescher
