Dear colleague,

here is the July issue of our ANKE news with the following messages
for you:

-> Our ftp server is now also reachable on the www. Therefore, most of
-> the information which up to now was only accessible via ftp is now
-> available in a much more convenient manner (provided the net is not
-> too slow!). The www address of the ANKE homepage is: 
->      http://ikpd15.ikp.kfa-juelich.de:8085/doc/Anke.html.
-> You should use NETSCAPE and not MOSAIC in order to make full use of
-> the offered features. It would be nice if you could have a look at it
-> and tell me about your opinion. Certainly, there is still room for
-> improvements. If somebody wants to install his own 'sub-pages' or
-> some kind of pinboards (s)he should contact me and/or send me the
-> html files. In particular I have already installed a page for the
-> polarized-target groups. I would like to suggest that if there is
-> anything you want to have distributed among the groups working on
-> the polarized target (s)he should send it to me or H. Seyfarth and
-> I will then distribute it to the people on our distribution list
-> (see polarized-target page). In addition, these documents will also
-> appear on the www page itself and, thus, be accesible to everybody
-> in the collaboration. 

During the last weeks our colleagues from Dubna have tested the
scintillation counters of the backward detection system here in the
IKP. It turned out that the counters fulfill the requirements on
energy and time resulution. The amplitude resolution is approx. 30 %
(first, 5 mm thick plane) and 25 % (second, 20 mm thick plane)
FWHM. The time resolution including mean timers is between 380 and 590
ps FWHM for a pair of (thin and thick) counters. 

Please note that we have foreseen November 13th and 14th for our
collaboration meeting 1996. The meeting will start in the afternoon of
the 13th. Further information will be sent to you soon.

Last but not least I would like to inform you that two of our Ph.D. 
students - Arndt Franzen and Ralf Schleichert - got their degrees a
few weeks ago. Congratulations and all the best wishes for their future
work!
